Skala’s portfolio ends in 2008. Two years earlier he graduated, was nominated for the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, and settled in the village Zahrádka not far from Nepomuk. The themes he explored in his sparse photographic cycles and videos were based on family and amateur photos and films, which also formed the basis of his final examination work. It would be overly simplistic to create a straight line enumerating the procedures used in his work, from reconstruction to appropriation, from personal recollections and recounting, to listening, and ending with the relinquishment of the communicative language of art and settling in simple reality. Here we can find Skala now, in another village, a few kilometres from Zahrádka, the pictures from which have taken up residence in the memory of even those who might have never heard of it.
