Daniela Kramerová

Daniela Kramerová, curator and art historian, studied art history at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University, at the Central European University, and also completed a postgraduate stay at the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. In addition to her scientific and curatorial activities, she also works as a graphic designer for various anthologies and magazines (e.g. HIS Voice magazine).

Daniela Kramer's main professional interests include art from the second half of the 20^th century to the present, but she also works with the socio-historical context of art and design. In this respect, one of her most significant projects was the exhibition and publication Brussels Dream: Czechoslovak Participation in the World Exhibition EXPO 58 in Brussels and Lifestyle in the first half of the 1960s, which was presented in 2008-2009 at the Prague GHMP, the Moravian Gallery, and also at the Prague House in Brussels. She also pursued design and lifestyle in general through her extensive collaboration with GAVU Cheb when preparing the permanent exhibition Retromuseum - Lifestyle and Design in Czechoslovakia (2016). She has also collaborated with this institution on other short-term exhibitions (Years in the Window Display: A Probe into Arranging Window Displays in Czechoslovakia 1955-1989).

Daniela Kramerová was also part of the research project team dealing with the work of Czech artists for Iran, working for the Art Center (a commercial organization that exported Czech art during the dictatorship of the Communist Party in Czechoslovakia). The Art Center was then presented in an exhibition curated by Milena Bartlová, Building the State: Representation of Czechoslovakia in Art, Architecture and Design, which took place in the Trade Fair Palace of the National Gallery in Prague, and in the accompanying publication where Kramerová’s text revealing the activities of the Art Centre was published.

Kramerová is also interested in design and art in relation to public space. Daniela is the co-founder of the m3 Festival / Art in Space and a member of the artistic council of the festival, which is organized by Studio Bubec.   Since 2017 she has been pointing out different public locations in Prague, and highlighting their problems and issues. Every year, visitors can encounter completely different approaches and perspectives on art and public space, which can be attributed to the selection of a different curatorial duo each time - in 2017, Daniela Kramerová was the curator together with Radek Wohlmuth, presenting a total of 15 artists with 16 installations ranging from classical sculpture to graffiti in Prague's Karlín district. Kramerová also focused on public space through the previously neglected artist Jiří Novák, whose monograph she published in 2010 and whose kinetic and public sculptures from the socialist period are among the iconic symbols of their time, not only in Czech housing developments.

Daniela Kramerová also collaborates with Studio Bubec on the exhibition series Art Safari, which takes place in the form of open studios and presents both established artists and artists who are just beginning their creative careers. In addition to her exhibition activities, Kramerová is also involved in residencies and short-term exhibitions within the Bubec Gallery (Richard Loskot: Amplification of Space, Vojtěch Míča: Round Rectangles, etc.).
