No Return

Small fortress, Terezín, 16 April 1976

I hung wire netting in the middle of a solitary cell with the door on one side and the window on the other. I placed a chair by the door in the middle and I had a tape recorder and camera ready below the window.

I opened the door at 5pm and walked over to the middle of the window where I turned on the tape recorder. Some visitors happened to come by. The tape machine was recording and I photographed each new arrival. I didn't answer any of their questions or calls. At 6pm I shut the door and went away.
