a 6-month long performance staged mostly in Prague, January 1, 2003 – June 30, 2003
Limitations was a series of six voluntary self-restrictions - intentional omissions of certain everyday human activities. In the beginning, it was quite easy and natural for me, over the time, however, I experienced more and more difficulties. Each month was characterized by the non-existence of one fundamental activity:
January: I don´t speak this month
February: I don´t sleep at home this month
March: I don´t write this month
April: I go only on foot this month
May: I don´t eat alone this month
June: I don´t sit down this month
The aim of this long-term and psychically demanding project was, first of all, to raise peculiar, either unpleasant or funny, feelings in the other people. I wanted the passers-by to ask themselves questions after the point of my behavior. What it is like to live with certain restrictions, not being able to communicate verbally, to have privacy, to write, to use means of transport etc.... and what it is like for people who have to live with a certain limitation involuntarily and permanently.
How many limitations are there in our minds?
The actual outcome of the event were feelings and thoughts arising in the minds of people whom I met during those six months.
