Birds

Prague, 17 may 1975

I left for the outskirts of the city very early in the morning and I waded over from the bank to a small river island. I laid out some bowls filled with food for the birds and then, with my eyes blindfolded, I lay down under a tarpaulin. At about 1:30pm the police came. A policeman rode over to the island on a boat and took me off with all my belongings. I was later interrogated at the police station, I was given a fine for being a public nuisance and the bird feed was taken away for chemical analysis. l was released that evening.
