Deposit I, Office

Deposit 1, Office is an installation that places objets trouvés within a specific place. In the final of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2000 Kowolowski worked with the very institution of the National Gallery, which is where the exhibition was held. He took all of the objects contained in one of the offices of Veletržní palác and systematically arranged them on the floor of the exhibition space in accordance with a mathematical formula. The work can be interpreted as institutional criticism in which the artist exposes the inner workings of the institution itself and uses it as artistic material.
