The installation Cactuses is the first well known work by Baladrán and recalls that stage of his work in which he was using cheap materials in order to reinterpret everyday objects. His cactuses are made from plastic tubes, toilet brushes and other cheap items in a reference to Czech DIY culture and aesthetics. The materials he uses and his overarching aesthetic also refer to civility, the ordinary and quotidian, by which Baladrán reacts to the ongoing spectacularisation and commodification of artworks. Cactuses is a work we could make ourselves at home without difficulty.
